Stretcher of The Imagination Series (AKA Digital Painting Is Infinite)

Here the interntionally collected 'Painting Is Infinite' series takes on a digital dimension...
The series functions as a digital transposition of a physical painting series in which I re-assign the objecthood of a reversed canvas stretchers with an altered state of identity… There is a point where the familiar shifts - at which the level of recognisability becomes terminated. By shifting zones of retinal perception, I alter the way in which the rear of a canvas is to be interpreted. By turning the canvas around and using the unfinished backing as the frame, I initiate the idea of the canvas as a portal that looks out. These pieces occupy a place amidst optically perceived physicality, at the point at which the imagination becomes conducive to metaphysical contemplation. Artistic mechanisms that I involve often include juxtaposition and a binary aesthetic; wonder and nihilism oscillate, the relatively micro near gazes out to the macro.

The intention in the series is to generate minimal, Zen-esque compositions that can present an intuitive point of departure towards what lies beyond. Here, I seek to instill a transcendent sense of wonder intended to guide the viewer to tap into the sublime, ultimately drawing attention to the mental faculty that enables man to be transported by Art. The Stretcher of The Imagination series effectively serves as an ode to the infinite faculties of human imagination and creativity through a sense of connectivity with the awe-inspiring context of interplanetary space.

The minimal compositions of the Spacewalk series feature three consistent elements - earth, void, man - all hanging delicately in the balance. The intrepid lone astronaut alludes to both the ‘creative condition’ and the paradox of the status of man over life on Earth but his inability to survive without the planet’s support.

In ancient times Socrates wrote that "Man must rise above the Earth—to the top of the atmosphere and beyond—for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives". After seeing Earth from the outside, astronauts often talk of a perspective-altering experience described as the Overview Effect. This phenomenon produces a cognitive shift of awareness derived from a profound feeling of awe producing a unifying sense of inter-connectivity with the planet and all life upon it.
